There are ways merchants can decrease the number of abandoned carts on their sites, however. Most of the time, it is a matter of providing all the information a customer needs in a way that is easily accessible. Descriptions should be very detailed with accurate product descriptions and color, size and quantity options. When size is an issue, it also helps to provide graphical and numerical charts. These give the customer a context and help them decide whether the product will be a suitable fit.
Since customers cannot physically see or touch merchandise, pictures are a huge selling point. Merchants must be able to provide crisp clear images in multiple views. Additionally, it helps if those images show the product in use. If the product is clothing, someone in the picture should be wearing it, for example. It helps to show customer reviews very near these images.
Finally, customers want to know what their options are for returns and warranties. For merchants, the ideal sale is one in which there is no return. However, the sales world just does not operate this way. Showing clear return policies, service, installation and product guides helps to cut down on returns. It increases the chance that items in a shopping cart will become a final sale.
