Cutting My Expenses to Have Money for Travel

Today, I realized that I have been spending way too much. So, I think it is the time to start cutting my expenses since I already have bought what we need for Christmas! :)

I have come across this blog post of Nomadic Matt; 20 Ways to Cut Your Expenses, Grow Your Bank Balance, and Have Money for Travel and this post, he just pointed out so many things for me that actually make sense.

I wrote down what do I need to pay every month like house rent, internet bills, electricity and water bills, PhilHealth and PAG-IBIG. I also made a list of my discretionary spending and phantom expenses... and man, it's a lot of moolah!!!

So, in the list of my discretionary spending and phantom expenses, I crossed out a few of them which I believe I can live without like eating outside (restaurants), sodas and etc.

Here's what I have thought....

I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO COOK - I just said goodbye to my weekly pizza delivery and no more eating out every week. I just realized how fun it is to cook for your own. Well, you may wonder why up to now, I still don't know how to cook... we're not rich, I am not a brat... it's just that, my mom never let me do anything in the kitchen except to cook rice (I'm an expert at that) and wash the dishes. She loves me that much! :)  Well now, I gathered few recipes and I'm starting my adventures in the kitchen.

NO MORE COKE or PEPSI - I admit, I always have soft drinks every lunch and I know it's sinful... Imagine... a can of Coke or Pepsi is around 25 to 35 Pesos and I have them every lunch, every day!! 35 times 7 equals 245! And in one month, it's 980 Pesos!!! Imagine, how much I can save without them... plus, I'll be more into drinking water now that they are not in my budget list anymore! :)

SHOP WISELY! - Either online or offline shopping, it's really a must to be wise shopper. Now, I start collecting coupon codes for my online shopping for domains, and work-related stuffs... and, I am also gathering gift certificates in various malls and department stores and try to spot SALES too. That way, I can save a little moolah! :)

Since I decided to start traveling the world, I decided to be thrifty now. I want travel not because of work, but because I just want to wander around, meet new people and have some fun... and for that to happen, I MUST START TO CUT MY EXPENSES! So help me GOD! ♥ comments

you'll enjoy cooking a lot Marie, but remember, don't over buy ingredients too just because you love cooking too much :) I know, one of my unnecessary spending back when I was much younger was buying too much food ingredients to cook since I loved cooking that much. good luck to your dreams of traveling, I know you'll get there soon.

You have to spend wisely when you're planning for something different, and it's likely you get that because of what you're doing right now.

Shall I say, rude awakening? You're right on track realizing all these things. And as the year is about to end, what better way to start anew than a brand new year?

You can do it, it's just a matter of self discipline and the willingness to carry out your plans. Good luck!

You can do it girl! Just take one step at a time. It’s part of my New Year’s resolution too (Skip dining out or ordering fast food delivery, buying small sized toiletries/stuffs). ^_^
