Getting in Bed With Gadgets Raises Lifetime Heart Attack Risk by 50%

My mom has confiscated my smartphone because I have't set my eyes off of it and I admit, it's not good. So, I haven't get to touch my phone for a week now which does feels very weird for me at the start but now, I'm starting to get the hang of it. I can do a lot of chores now that I don't have it. Before, I even sleep with it too right next to my bed. And after researching in the internet what might it cause to me and the likes of me, I realize that it's better that my mom got it.

According to Online Psychology Degree:

There’s no question that in recent years, regular smartphone, tablet, and other gadget users have developed a strong bond with their technology. More and more people find themselves riddled with separation anxiety if they leave their phone at home, or even if it’s in a different room. For many gadget users, a popular time to get really plugged in to technology is in the downtime right before bed—in fact, more and more people will say that they can’t sleep without spending time reading a tablet, browsing the web, or watching Netflix. But this particular time for gadget addiction, right before going to sleep, can be more harmful than helpful to good rest. New studies show that not only are most people sleeping with their smartphones in the bed with them, they’re also struggling to sleep well, even if they don’t realize it. Not only does the light from your gadgets suppress sleep-inducing melatonin, there’s a good chance that you’ve been woken up by a call or text message in the middle of the night recently. In fact, many people say that if they happen to awake in the middle of the night, the natural reaction is to reach for their phone. The psychology behind why we feel so addicted to our gadgets is a field that is just now burgeoning, and for the future health of technology users everywhere, it’s probably worth looking into.

See the graphics right after the jump. ^_^

I am guilty as charged. That's why after reading this I realize not to sleep with any gadgets with me. Will you still sleep with your gadgets? comments

Guilty with the tablet...been losing sleep over reading downloaded books hehehe...But I'm weaning myself away. Cellphone naman, I use as alarm kasi that is why it's necessary for me to have it in bed. I do get pissed off when someone calls or texts me in the dead of the night and it's not an emergency.

guilty too hahaha, this is a great eye opener...I will share this info with my teenage son who can not sleep without his phone by his side...I remember the lifestyle of our elders who didn't have the luxury of these high tech gadgets...they have longer lives it seems...and yes sometimes I wish I could do away with technology so I could spend more time enjoying nature...thank you really for sharing this, I will from now on try my best to stay away from my gadgets...wish me luck :-)

That's one main rule at our home, when it's bed , its bed time nothing else.

Bunso, wala ka talagang makabasa ng walang kwentang komento ko. Eto sa iyo! Buti nga at kinumpiska ang gadget mo. Matulog ka na kasi ng maaga at ng lumaki ka pa, Remember there is a season for everything. a season for gadgets and a season for love. Ano ba yang nasabi ko.

I am guilty as charged, hahaha! Sa mga may-asawa, very interesting yong kaya nilang igive- up ang sex just to have their phones beside them in bed, LOL! Nakakaloka!

While reading this, I remember my fiance who turns off his phone whenever he goes to bed. I so love to emulate him. I will begin tonight by muting my phone when I go to sleep ;-) Thanks for the lovely share, Marie!

very good information, i am sure many are guilty as charged :) i used to have my gadget beside my bed before, but now, they are all far from me when I go to bed. bed is bed, sleep is very important for me, and I feel good since I get more sleep :) so true about sleep :)

My Bad! I am so guilty with this, In fact, I am in bed as I write down this comment. But I love the graphic presentation of facts and data and they are very factual. No wonder I get so stressed out during the day because browsing online with my laptop becomes a regular habit. Thanks for sharing this, I will sure keep this in mind and hope to lessen if not stop this bad habit.

I usually bring my cellular phone inside the room not because I don't want to be separated from if but it is for easily call someone outside the room when I need help with Bella.

I don't want to disturb a sleeping baby with my voice so I would likely call someone outside the room using my phone.
