That Ambition As a Kid

Do you remember when you were still in elementary and your teacher gives you a task, and that is to write an essay about your ambition? Well, I still remember it very clearly.

When I was still in the third grade, I was asked by my teacher what I want to be when I grow up and I said, with no hesitation, that I want to be a teacher like her. She asked me why I want to be a teacher then I told her that I like to be in school always.

And on the fourth grade, my new teacher asked me what I want to be when I grow up and I said, I want to be a president of the Philippines and she was amazed. That time, I had no idea how hard it is to be the commander-in-chief of a country.

I just realized that I don't fit to become a teacher. I am very impatient and I just can't handle teaching kids. My mom always tell me that I shouldn't be a teacher because of my reflexes when I am irritated or just simply being impatient.

As of now, my ambition? I am not sure. I'm just living life and going with the flow. I just make sure that I am happy and contented of everything I do.

Do you still remember your ambitions as a kid? Mind sharing it? :D comments

That's very interesting, Marie. You always wanna be in school while myself can't wait to get out of it. LOL! But anyhow, I still kept going to school even after I finished at the Uni.

Being a teacher is my second best ambition. I am a frustrated lawyer but I never dreamt of it when I was a kid. It only came later in life when I discovered for myself that I can and love to memorize an entire thick book. Hahaha!

I can't remember our teacher asking us to do an essay about our ambitions but I can vividly recall she would always require us to write something about current events and we would read it aloud infront of the class.

The higher the position you achieve the more responsibilities you will carry, we can't tell how hard to be the president until we are in the position to make sure we achieve and help not only our country but our fellow citizens to improve.

Like you, I am also going with the flow of life. Yes, I can remember the tasks our teacher made us do, essays and all. :-D

I too remember very well about my response when I was asked that question in grade school. Every year, we had an assessment with the Guidance Counselor. Every year, from Kindergarten to 3rd grade, my response was - "I want to be an astronaut!" I guess that was brought about by all the hype of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. However, when I learned that studying to be an astronaut would entail a lot of math subjects, I changed my response to - "I want to be a doctor!" hahaha.

Ha! I wanted to be a teacher too but went on a different course just because I wasn't fit as a teacher. But, that changed when I had kids, I taught them at home on their pre-school years and they both told me that although I am so strict, I am their best teacher!

I wanted to be a doctor when I was a kid, but I never became one. But on Sundays, I am a Sunday school teacher in our church and after finishing my Mass Communications degree, worked and got married, I went back to school to become a Special Education teacher and I have never regretted it. I also told myself that I can't handle kids and that I am very impatient, but I was the opposite! You're right, just see where you will fit and grow, professionally, mentally, socially and financially.

Hmmm, remember those years of writing, and I always was excited to write on becoming a doctor or journalist, anyway, that shifted in high school to engineering.

This sound funny, but during my high grade school days, whenever my teachers asked ne what I wanted to be.. I always tell them I want to be a Scientist.. Taray no. But back then sa high school, medyo sober na ako. I dreamt of someday to be a HUMAN BEING.. Those were the days kasi na people acted like animals.

I also wanted to become a teacher. I have always believed that it's a really noble profession. I'm an online writing instructor now, so that ambition partly came true.
